Welcome to 1st Baptist Women of the Word

Welcome to the on-line site of Women of the Word, an exciting weekly Bible study which meets in the Fireside Room of First Baptist Church, Castro Valley, California, at the corner of Redwood Road and Seven Hills Road.

This year's study will begin September 27, 2011. It will conclude May 8, 2012. We will not meet during February. It will include 15 lessons entitled "BEFORE ABRAHAM: A Solid Foundation", followed by 8 (unusual) attributes of God, such as Sweetness, Gentleness, Jealousy, Fire, Water, Etc.

Written and taught by Liz Fosdahl, the study meets from 9:25-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and includes women of all ages from more than 30 churches. Childcare is provided for pre-schoolers. We have a wonderful time of worship, study, and fellowship (with snacks!), concluding with some brief comments by Liz that tie it all together in a most stimulating and challenging way. Join with us for a life-changing experience.  There is no charge.

An evening study began last year and will also run concurrently each Thursday evening this year from 7-8:30 p.m. The first week only it will meet on Tuesday, September 27th. Led by Julie Jorgenson, this discussion group meets in room 202 and offers an opportunity for Christian fellowship and growth as the week's lesson is discussed and the women listen together to the recording of the lecture. There is no childcare for the evening study.

This website also includes the studies taught over the past four years, entitled "The Life of David", "What on Earth is Happening?!" (a study on prophecy), "Exploring Romans" (which incorporates a series on the armor of God), and "Jesus According to Scriptures" (a study on the life of Christ). It also includes a portion of The Names of God series: 16 written lessons and 7 audio files.

Each study includes downloadable written study questions and recorded lectures, which can be heard on-line. The 2011-2012 study will be added and updated on a weekly basis as the material is presented.
